Background

Michy McCreary founded Mittsu in 2020 and has over a decade of experience working in the public and private sectors of landscape architecture. She is a registered Landscape Architect in New York, holds a Master in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia College of Environment + Design, and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Emory University.

Michy splits her time between Brooklyn and upstate NY with her husband Alex and dog Mighty Quinn. You’ll usually find her in the garden, experimenting with new planting combinations and expanding her horticultural knowledge. When she’s not gardening or planning for the next planting season, Michy spends her time as an avid foodie, traveling around the world, and keeping up with whatever mischief Mighty Quinn’s gotten herself into.

Prior to founding Mittsu

Michy was a Senior Associate at the internationally recognized design firm SCAPE Landscape Architecture. She designed and managed a diverse range of projects including public parks, commercial waterfront developments, cultural institutions, and residential estates.

Michy also worked in the Design & Construction office of the Prospect Park Alliance as a Landscape Designer, where she supported numerous historic restoration and landscape rehabilitation projects throughout the 526-acre public park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.  Her knowledge of native Northeastern plant communities was established while working as an Urban Park Ranger for NYC Parks and further developed through close collaboration with professional horticulturalists and arborists managing Prospect Park’s diverse landscapes.
